Just like papaw and mamaw ate it!

Honeycomb brings back fond memories for David.  He called his grandfather papaw, and his grandmother, mamaw. When David's family visited his grandparents in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky when he was a boy, mamaw and papaw always had a bowl of honeycomb on the breakfast table to eat with mamaw's fresh, made-from-scratch biscuits.

Many Mountain people kept bees in hollowed out logs from the Sweet Gum tree  of Southeastern Kentucky because they didn't have access to the beehives David uses at Bee Great today.  Many people in the mountains still refer to beehives as gums.

We only have a limited supply of honeycomb each year because it's best for the bees. Bees can produce 8 pounds of honey for every pound of beeswax. That means they work 8 times harder for the wax than the honey. One bee produces only 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in it's lifetime, so beeswax is very important to the honey bee colony. At Bee Great, we put as much beeswax back in the hives each year after extracting honey as possible.

You can enjoy honeycomb as you normally would, and then chew the beeswax just like chewing gum, or you can swallow the wax with the honey. It's all completely edible and great for your digestive well-being.
